Vactan FAQs
What can I use as an overcoat?
Vactan is self priming as it contains a latex primer. Essentially Vactan can be overcoated with any good quality paint except cellulose.
However it is always best practice to perform a test patch with anything used.
Vactan contains a number of water soluble ingredients and because of this top-coating is recommended for good performance in aggressive environments. Best performance is given by alkyd topcoats but those based on chlorinated rubber, vinyl, epoxy and polyurethane resins as well as those based on acrylic lattices may be used.
Will Vactan take application of filler after it has been applied to boat keels?
2 pak filler works great. Always do a test patch first. If sanding down afterwards be careful to only use fine grade sandpaper so you don't break the seal of the latex primer coat within Vactan; this acts as a primer but also as a barrier coat to delay re-rusting.
Can Vactan be applied as a spray?
Yes Vactan can be applied using an airless spray delivery system. Normally at 50-70psi. Dilution with water may be necessary depending on equipment. If so, limit to a maximum of 7 parts Vactan to 3 parts water and ensure several coats are applied. If you have specific questions about types of spray application please contact us and we will be happy to help.
Is Vactan Suitable for use on ships?
Yes Vactan can be used on ships. In fact, Vactan is already used by some of the worlds largest shipping and cruise line companies. Vactan is a trusted, tried and tested approach to dealing with corrosion on ships of all sizes.
Can I use Vactan on non corroded metal?
